• SABBIONETA Banks of the Po and the Oglio River, ships’ bridge, Sabbioneta

Vespa Club Mantova

An excursion to deep into nature that brings Vespa to the point where the Oglio river flows into the Po, in a blaze of native vegetation and colour.
The Barche bridge, built in 1913 as part of a project and still standing today, harks back to the late 8th century, when the river Oglio could only be crossed with rafts and boats; it is the last bridge on barges remaining in the province of Mantua, and not joins the two banks of the river, but also represents a link between the recent past and the modern day.
Sabbioneta, which, along with MAntua, has held a place on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 2008, is a perfect example of the application of Renaissance theories in terms of how an ideal city should be designed.
