Although primarily seen as a city of art, Mantua's mysterious waters and ancient legends also offer visitors a host of wonderful opportunities to experience nature.
Water is intrinsic to Mantua, and pervades the city through its lakes and the Rio canal, a medieval construction that in Vicolo Sottoriva, from the San Francesco bridges or from the Pescheria, provides us with a wealth of beautiful images of a heartfelt and intimate nature, reminiscent of a little Venice.
Fed by the Mincio river from Lake Garda, the three lakes of Mantua are also a much-loved destination for lovers of sport fishing. The middle and lower lakes are teeming with wels catfish, and the marshes of the Po and Mincio are rich in pike, carp and catfish, perch, tench and eels -
a rich and luxuriant land where variety has created an abundant ecosystem.
Recently, the area along the banks of the lakes, from the port Catena and up to Belfiore on the one hand and to Cittadella on the other, was reclaimed as part of the 'peri-urban park', supported by the Mincio park and by the municipality: cycle paths, green lawns and vegetation for shade, with tourist boats running on the lakes.

So nature lovers too can satisfy their passion by plunging into the Mantuan region.
